On the southern coast of Martinique island, in the Caribbean sea, between Sainte-Luce and Sainte-Anne islands, lies Le Marin, a charming coastal settlement. Le Marin is known to have the biggest marina in the Caribbean, making it the best option possible for chartering all kinds of vessels, from yachts to catamarans, either skippered or bareboat. Le Marin is one of the oldest settlements on the island and the centre of the south region of Martinique.
Why choose Le Marin?
Le Marin is a French speaking region, situated on the island of Martinique, a French overseas territory in the Caribbean Sea. The gulf of Le Marin is famous for the marina it contains, bordered by the Marin headland to the south and by Borgnesse headland to the west. The harbour in Le Marin is known as the biggest in the Caribbean, where scattered shops, bars and restaurants create a lively atmosphere, whilst luxury cruise ships dock in the distance. Le Marin attracts a multinational array of sailors, thanks to the size and quality of its marina, boasting a capacity of 800 berths and over a hundred mooring buoys. Le Marin harbour has also been awarded the Blue Flag for environmental excellence, 11 years running.
What to do and see on your yacht charter in Le Marin?
Le Marin is a settlement rich in cultural heritage, as well as natural beauties, found outside the city. The Church of St. Stephen, from the 18th century, is the oldest in Martinique and is on the way to the local market, where craftsmen and farmers sell handmade and locally grown produce. Boutiques and more trendier shops can be found alongside the coastal promenade, near the harbour. In the vicinity of Le Marin, some beautiful beaches await. The beach at Whale Cove is accessible only by boat or by foot and it offers peace and quiet to visitors, along with golden sand and azure water. Other beaches include Cap Macré, Grand Macabou, Pointe Borgnesse and Anse Grosse Roche. Also, a worthy mention is the biodiversity of animal and plant life found in the local ethnobotanical park and Creole gardens.
Sailing season - When to charter in Le Marin?
The Caribbean climate is stable all year long, with temperatures of air being constant between 23 and 26 degrees Celsius. The best time to visit Le Marin would be either in December or in April, when it is several degrees cooler and less humid than the rest of the year. The downside is that the majority of tourists also come during this time, so the prices are bumped up considerably. Hurricane season, from July to October, is best avoided completely. From May to June, it is still possible to get cheaper charter deals and experience fewer crowd and stable weather conditions for sailing.
