Napels is the largest city in the region of Campania, situated in the Gulf od Napoli, overlooked by the grandiose stature of Mt. Vesuvius. It is here that pizza was invented and it is here where you can enjoy the best pizzas in Italy. The nearby islands of Capri, Ischia and Procida provide perfect excuses for daily sailing excursions, because of their remarkable natural beauty. Southeast of Napels is the unforgettable settlement of Pompeii, preserved by volcanic ash during the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. Other notable remains of classic antiquity can be found in Herculaneum, Paestum and Cuma, where many perfectly preserved amphitheatres, triumphal arches, villas, bridges and tombs are sure to spark imaginations of visitors. Southwards, the Amalfi Coast awaits sailors wishing to cruise one of the finest coastlines in Italy, hosting rich Mediterranean flora in form of olives, figs, grapes, oranges and lemons. Salerno lies in the Gulf of Salerno on the Tyrrhenian Sea and it is an oasis of peace and quiet, making it a one of a kind place every sailor should visit during perfect summer getaway. The old town of Solerno, better known as the Rione Duomo district, is located in the western part of the settlement. Piazza della Libertia is the meeting place for locals, where you can enjoy authentic Italian cuisine whilst soaking in the relaxed atmosphere felt around Solerno that forces you to slow down and enjoy every moment of your sailing vacation. From Piazza della Libertia, reaching the more important and interesting sights, like Villa Comunale, the Duomo and the Archaeological museum, will be a piece of cake. The Duomo is a 11th century cathedral dedicated to Saint Matthew, containing many religious artefacts and works of art. Sailing season - When to charter in Campania region?

Because of the popularity Campania holds with the international tourist community, during the summer season it is normal for beaches to be crowded, hotels booked and marinas fully occupied. For anyone wishing to sail in Campania between June and August, it would be best to book yachts several months in advance. Spring and Autumn are more comfortable in terms of crowds, vacancy and prices. Southern Italy is heavily influenced by elements of a Mediterranean climate and summer heat can sometimes climb as high as 35 degrees Celsius. Between April and May temperatures are much more bearable and the wind is mild and stable, as it is also between September and October.
